  New Links
I have added several links to the right side. Under "Living History Units," you'll find the 2nd South Carolina Band and the 7th Virginia Infantry. I have added a heading entitled SCV/SUV Links, and the first addition is the General Louis Hebert SCV #2032. Civil War Art adds Jeff Trexler. Reference Links has grown by 5, with Confederate Navy.com, the Friends of Stafford, Project Gutenberg, Rare Maps for Sale, and VA Civil War Relics. I've added "The Civil War," "The Diaries of Owen Wright," and "The Intense Inane" to the Blogs Links. Read and enjoy.

Andy --

Thanks for adding my link http://pinnacled.blogspot.com to your blogroll. I've happily reciprocated.

I discovered that I have a Civil War ancestor a little less than 3 years ago, so I have a bit of reading to catch up on. It's really been quite fascinating chasing down the clues and putting together the puzzle pieces. It's been a process of awakening from a lifelong slumber in some ways.

I'm a fifth generation descendant of a German immigrant who died in the war. My great grandfather was 9 when he learned that his father would not be returning from the war. He died in Chippewa Falls at age 41 in 1897, the same year that Colonel Krez died in Milwaukee. My grandfather was 13 in 1897. He died in 1932 when my father was only 5 years old.

My father will be 80 next year. He learned from me that his great grandfather died in the Civil War. His mother knew and so did both of his older sisters, but he was never told, at least not in so many words, until my aunt finally sent my dad some documents earlier this year.

I recently took several online family history courses through the Lifelong Learning program at The Union Institute, which I believe had been Norwich University in conjunction with Vermont College in Brattleboro. The online writing classes were useful to me as a means of assimilating some of the family history information I had begun locating online.

I think it's fair to say that much of the writing on my blog grew out of efforts applied in those online courses.

Regards,

Craig
